So this clip talks about ‘03 but this was not the first or only time that Phil asked Kobe to dial it back so that Shaq wouldn’t mentally check out. So yeah Kobe wasn’t winning without that, but that doesn’t mean that Kobe couldn’t have won FMVP or achieved greater personal accolades at at earlier age than he did:
