The Official NBA Thread: PLAYOFFS

I really want Dame to stay in Portland and see where things go with the young core.
That man is 33 and on a max deal

By all reports he's thinking about competing for a chip/making legacy moves.

He's not looking to waste anymore years on another PDX 'project' waiting for another round of young guys to pan out and develop into either a worse version or similar level of a Blazer squad that he's been asked to carry for 10+ years

He's earned the right to choose where he spends the end of his prime IMO. If he wants to use that time to try to win then more power to him

He signed an extension when he didn't have to. How has he earned the right to do this when he chose money over wins signing the extension when he could be a free agent and signed where he wanted?

YOU get it.

He wanted his cake and to eat it too. He didn’t realize…

Doubt he'd even be asking out in the first place if that front office managed to assemble a competitive squad, or make an effort to, instead of shipping off all their pieces for draft picks.

This isn't a Harden case where someone wants out at the first sign of adversity. Dude had shown to be more than willing to stick it out in Portland his whole career especially given the amount of chances he gave them in the past.

I'm not in the loop with insiders or anything but it definitely feels like something must've happened between the FO and him, a breach of trust or whatever, for him to immediately demand out soon as the draft ended.

Don't think he just up and decided to burn that bridge like that on impluse/a whim or that the timing was coincidental.

Also let's not act like stars can normally pick and choose winners in FA these days , the best squads rarely ever have the space to go and fetch the big fish in the offseason. Those guys get their moves to competing squads of their choice through trade/sign and trades now.

No star is ever looking to wind their contracts down to go sign for the Rockets, Spurs, Jazz or Thunder

Lillard coming to the Raps doesn’t even make them better.
Portland does become better off the deal though.
Yeah Dame F’d no matter what outcome. Least he got his rap career to focus on in this coming season.

You shoulda listened to Bron in 2021 and came to the Lakers and you wouldn't be going through this Dame.
Most likely had assurances from Portland about being serious about building when he turned down Bron and AD's recruiting pitch.

I don't buy that he had a sudden change of heart just like that this offseason without reason after the years of sticking it out with that franchise

Tbf, he was led to believe Portland was trying to compete. Not tank by January.

Dame is annoying but it’s absolutely fair for him to ask for the trade despite just signing the extension

He’s done everything the right way his whole career

Portland balking at the herro, 2 youngins/picks offer is a bit much imo

It’s not the lopsided trade everyone is making it out to be, Kanye shrug. Just move herro again if need be

Dame is a 33 year old 6'3 guard. How many elite years does he really have left for Portland to be asking for everything and the kitchen sink for dude?

2 MAYBE 3?

Herro and a draft pick is almost TOO much if I'm keeping it 100.

The Toronto package with OG is crazy imo

I don’t see the point in offering that at all for Toronto

Why is it wrong for a player to change his mind after signing a contract but not wrong for a team to change their mind about a player after signing them?
