I'm going to go with after now based on the mess Marvel's studios is, but I bet the plan was to drop the game before originally. Marvel still salty they couldn't get X-Men back until now. They finally got what they wanted and have no idea what to do with it.

Honestly, X-Men would probably do better as a television series than a movie.
