Would rape even exist if sex wasn't a taboo in society?

some people rape because they feel thats the only way they can score
Some. I would say it's more like "few", but that's just my opinion.

there are a whole lot of generalizations being thrown out in this thread on both sides.

Not all rape is about power & control

Not all rape is about sexual urges/desires

The majority of rapes are a combination of wanting power/control & sexual urges/desires
Ive never said the word "all". I understand that its not black or white, but it's a gray matter. It's a certain shade of graythough, and leans in that direction.

Why do people stay asking me how old I am in these arguments i have on NT

? Early 20s. I have no idea what you just asked in that question.

People get aroused for weird reasons....eg.

-Pedophilia
-Violence/gore/masochistic behavior
-Dominance

I suppose you can group rape under being aroused by dominating someone else. It isn't black and white, human sexuality is complex. Some rape because they don't have enough sex. Some have enough sex but still rape because they are aroused by dominance. Either way they are aroused and it is about sex.

I ask your age because your view point is one that a young person would have about the topic.

Exactly, people get aroused for different reasons. So where is the excitement/arousal in a rape fantasy? If rape is about sex, then there should be no reasonto have a rape fantasy because the person is getting sex automatically. (The arousal is in the power the person recevies) If a person is still having sex,but rapes for dominance then the reason they are raping is for power. They're getting sex, yes, but thats not WHY they do it. They rape for thepower.

You're absolutely right, there is a psychopathology that makes someone prone to rape, violence, drug abuse and other acts of compulsion. We all have the propensity to become rapists, some people have sick sexual rape fantasies I can't even begin to explain. The point I'm trying to make is fundamentally rape is about sex. The act of rape in itself is a sexual act, it involves intercourse....a person needs to be aroused in order to commit rape.

If people have rape fantasties then what are they fantasizing about? Having sex? According to your logic, a rape fantasy would be a fantasy about having sex (because rape is about sex as you proclaim.)... so essentially every person who wishes to have sex has a rape fantasty.

The rape fantasty is also about power. Theres no other way to explain a rape fantasy.

Of course the person needs to be aroused, but they get aroused because of the power that comes with the rape.

Just out of curiousty... what's your age?

indeed.

but i honestly think that most if not all rape is about sexual urges.

power and control could be a part off all that..but some sexual urge is needed

depends on the individual really

but in order to rape someone you have to be physically aroused. & in the minute amount of cases where the rapist uses some type of enhancementmedicine then yes it may solely be about power.

But if a person gets aroused at the idea of raping someone. Then that means there is a sexual factor involved in the rape, meaning that they are raping thatperson in order to fulfill their SEXUAL FANTASY of power & dominance.

Damn, that really sounds like it is a combination of both sex & power/control.

but hey, you folks can go on believing that rape is only about power & control

Really guy? Either way they are aroused I don't know why you can't get that through ur head. And i guess a lot of scientists (including myanimal behavior professor) who share my views on why rape occurs is a young/immature individual. Come on dude.

People get aroused for weird reasons....I feel like a parent explaining sexual feelings to their child. You may be sexually sheltered if you're asking mewhere the excitement is in a rape fantasy.

Yes, you do have to be physically aroused. Im not debating this.

To the bolded part: Theres always a sexual factor involved in rape, thats HOW they rape them... through sexual intercourse. It's not WHY they rape them.

It's always going to be a combination of sex and power because both acts are involved, but the REASON they rape is for power.

And I'm the young person?

Youre using the thoughts of an animal behavior specialist to give suport about a human topic. Its not very valid.

I understand that people get aroused for different reasons. I'm an intelligent person.

Theres a reason why im asking you where the excitement in a rape fantasy is. I dont think youre understanding my point with that.

The arousal doesn't mean it's their reasoning for the action.

I don't understand why rape sexual arousal is such a hard (pun intended) concept for people to grasp (pun intended).

RAPISTS ARE AROUSED BECAUSE THEY WANT SEX......//THREAD. Whatever that reason is, is irrelevant.

-Power hungry rapists.....get aroused at the notion of dominating someone
-Sex hungry rapists get aroused at the chance to have intercourse
-Pedophilic rapist....rape because they are aroused by the idea of having sex with children.

RAPE=SEX. The difference between rape and sex is that with rape there isn't consent.

good lord...
yeah.. such a minor inconvenience...that whole consent thing..

I'm amazed at how well you all know what goes through the the minds of rapists.... I guess some of ya'll have been there, huh?

LOL I don't know where your sarcastic tone is directed at, hopefully not me......the point i've been trying to make in this thread is asimple one. I'm not saying i know what's going on in a rapists head or a pedophile's head or a sadomasochist's head. Human sexuality iscomplex......my argument is rape is a sexual act. Rapists have a sexual urge to commit the rape.

I get the feeling people in here think my point of view means I somehow condone the act of rape.

i pretty much agree with everything he said.

i just added that i believe that there is always a combination of sexual urges & desire for power & control

now which of those two factors has a bigger impact depends on the person. For some it may be more about power & control, while for other it may be moreabout the sexual urges/desires

QFT.

people act like rape has to be either because of sex or power & control... it is possible for it to be a combination of both factors.

it's not rape it's surprise sex

Duh... this is NT, where we come to conclusions based on a small snippet that is easily able to be taken & distorted when separated from the rest of thestatement

Anton and ericberry, I think where you guys are mistaken is your confusing acquaintance rape with the rape of strangers (the arguably more sociopathic act...arguably.)

in acquaintance rape (the more common form of rape) a lot of times there is a sexual motivation (not necessarily most of the time) and a common form ofacquaintance rape is date rape.

the random rape of strangers however is a violent crime driven by a sociopathic craving for power. Yes they're aroused, but that arousal isn't sexual, they're aroused by their dominance and "control" of their victim. rape is typically a crime of power.

so they get sexually aroused by the thought of controlling someone & having powerover them

you see how i used all 3 of those in the same sentence, that kinda shows how there is an element of the sexual nature & of thepower/dominance nature

You are agreeing with Ericberry.....and with me to some extent. People need to stop making generalizations......dirty did make an important point, we don'tknow what's in the mind of rapists or what their motivation is. My only argument here is that they are sexually aroused.

You and I have been saying the same thing for 5 pages and people keep circumventing it....NTers don't know how to read.

i'll admit i didn't read the first 4 pages of this thread so i guess i missed the entire point of the argument all of you are having lol.

i only responded because lavey sent this to me.

i'll add that yes, one can make the argument that theres sexual arousal just to physically perform rape, but you're not understanding what i said:

rape isnt about sex. most rape cases dont occur because the perpetrator wants to have sex. in most cases he doesnt even care that he's having sex. rapeis a means to completely humiliating and subjugating a victim. the act is about the violence, control, and power.

in other words it wouldn't be "oh man, i'm having sex" but "look what i'm doing to you. EYE did this."

EDIT

and you're all basically arguing if an erect penis = sexual arousal. this is one of the dumber debates ive seen on here in a while.

^^ how exactly does a woman rape a man?

Does she force herself onto his penis? Or does she put on a strap-on & give it to him?

Not trying to be funny, i genuinely want to know what occurs.
