is the wire a good show?

The Wire is the GOAT show, but I'm biased since I'm from Baltimore and can relate to a lot of themes the shows explores. What made me love the Wire so much was how it explored SO many different social themes in one show. The show explored it all, from democratic society, the justice system, the drug trade, the education system, etc. Pretty much every social institution that effects people living in a major city is somehow involved in the show's storyline. I've heard it compared to a Greek Tragedy, which I believe aptly applies.

All types of flawed reasoning and comparisons here :lol

Other than those characters you named who else was suppose to be "memorable"? You talking like BB had this huge cast that was all bad and forgettable. With that said you fronting on Hank, Tuco, the twins, and that bell being rung old man Hector in the wheelchair.

That you only cared about Jesse is just that. You only cared about him

Comparing BB and The Wire is such a fail though. The two shows gave you two different types of feels on it's journey. There's a realism and action packed fantasy yall dudes are trying to pit against each other and it'll really just come down to which you prefer

He said the show had better characters and I'm discussing those characters :lol. There are too many good characters on the Wire for me to even start there.

Yep, I'm fronting on all of characters you mentioned :lol. Tuco didn't stick around long enough for there to be any depth there. Hank's story was boring to me until the moment he discovered out about Walt. I actually cared about Mike's journey so my bad for not mentioning him.

Where did I say I only cared about Jesse? I think you read that wrong.

Of course this is all based on preference :lol

In no way am I saying that BB was a bad show. Walt was such a force that he drove that show for me almost single handedly.

Also. ...

Shotout to the staff at "The Wire". My main man was an extra as I posted in the wire thread...he passed earlier in the year...and the Wardrobe guy, and a few other staff showed up at his vigil, and said some very kind words in honor of my man.

Prez sent his condolences as well. Class act all around :hat [emoji]128591[/emoji][emoji]127998[/emoji].

I tell myself to stay away from The Wire threads because people start talking crazy about Season 2.

Season 2 is kinda underwhelming on the first watch. I think it's because you're really getting into the story of the high rises and want more, then the scenery completely changes.

I just finished watching the series again, and on a second watch, season 2 is really really dope.

I haven't watched season 2 for years, probably the last time is when it was first out actually.  I read someplace on the internet that the story was supposed to run side by side with the fall of the twin towers, whaddya say?  Looking back I thought it was a good story about how drugs actually get into impoverished minority neighborhoods.  As opposed to just portraying the wars over drug money in said neighborhoods, which was the best selling story for awhile.

Before I watched the series ppl kept warning me for S2. I dunno maybe I lowered my expectation but to me S2 was really really good. Posters had me thinking it was gonna be such trash that I'd want to bail on the whole show (I've seen worse tv). I felt it was such a bold move to just start fresh and change half the cast moving forward. Made it clear this show was about the detectives just as much as anybody else.

It was a good story that was told too but then S3 just blew it out of the water.

Season 2 was flames don't pay attention to that noise. Watch the Wire, one of the best shows ever.

Season 2 was a good season. I understand the hate during the original airing because it's completely different than 1 but with the complete series Season 2 is

Wow at the dude that said Hanks character wasn't memorable. I strongly disagree. Dude was such an amazing actor. I know it's an unpopular opinion, but I didn't care much for mike's character. Solid actor, damn near seemed like he was living his actual life at times and everyone else was acting, but his storyline wasn't very compelling to me.

wire season 2 was solid. that's just silly to call it garbage.
as much as i loved the wire and recommended it to so many people, breaking bad was a better entertainment experience. the last 2 season were fantastic and the ending was perfect.

Who here actually watched this show when it was airing?

I hate most yall. This show shouldve had at least 8 seasons if it wasn't for the awful ratings it was getting. :{

To be fair premium network series weren't as popular back then like they are today. Also the series ended at the right time. Season 5 was not that good

Not a single mention of Omar :lol

I hated the way he died.

I thought it was perfect, it just summed up how there's always a surprise in the game, after all the elaborate attempts on his life, it was almost poetic that a child managed to walk right up on him and kill him.

I agree 100%. Showtime and HBO weren't on the level they are today back when the Wire was going strong.

Prob my favorite series of all time. Season 2 got so much hate, but I loved it because I could relate. My dad, uncle, cousin, brother are longshoreman, and I used to be one too. They captured the culture, slang, vibe, and politics of how it is on those docks. And it season 2 comes into play later in the series. But like someone else mentioned, this show touches on how jacked up our society is. So many people want to do the right thing and try to change things for the better, but get handcuffed by bosses, policies, red tape or politics. And then when they got to the kids and the education system I could only shake my head and get all in my feels.

All in all this series is :smokin

I began in Fall 2006 when season 4 was airing on Sunday nights. Instantly hooked. I got the first three season boxed sets for Christmas that same year so I could catch up and did so in the matter of a few weeks.

cmon brehs theres all kinda spoilage in this thread.  I'd be mad if I never watched it
