NT: Do you know/ever met a full blooded native american?

I'm full blooded native or indian. I'm not offended by either term. I live on a reservation. Yeah alot of us like to get drunk and like what's already been said, some tribes are well off but the majority of tribes are very poor.

Clearly, dude above doesn't know what he's talking about because we all cited very specific examples to which we did know the details, but he seemed to think we were generalizing because he so easily misinterpreted simple stories to be comments on the NA population at large.

Your comments were less generalized than some of the others but they added to the message in this thread that American Indians are generally somehow wealthy, receive ludicrous sums of money on a monthly basis from the government, have an "easy" life. etc.

I just look at it like the old stories of the "Welfare Queen" whose project apartment was comparable to the Hampton's and was driving a shiny new Caddy all off of her monthly public assistance check which was so high because she continued to have children to increase her monthly benefit amount.  Has this EVER happened before?  Probably so (in some capacity), but it is by no means indicative of the experience of impoverished urban Black females.

I just don't want people to walk away from this thread with a highly inaccurate perception of Native Americans and their lifestyles.  That being said, I probably took it too far.  My apologies to y'all.

I'm half, look white but I don't identify myself as being white. I work on reserve here in Canada so most of the people I know are Indian. I'm not going to get into the social issues which are way too complicated.

I was gonna go there, but went to ECU instead. Me and my co workers be bugging out because the Lumbees be wylin. I didn't know that there were any NTers from that area my cousin runs track out there, and yes some Indian women look amazing in person.
What's your cousin's name? I've probably interviewed him.

I met a girl that claimed to be "part indian," meaning native american. So I'm pretty sure she was full of !%@%.

I had a native america teacher for my US History class. One of the most interesting and biased classes I have ever taken.

all i know is i live five minutes from a reservation (mystic lake minnesota) look it up..

lets just say multi-million dollar homes, lambos. m6. bentleys, you name they have it.

these fools are getting upwards of 30k every two weeks... SMH and to think of the poor natives in SD and all across the nation.

ill go take pics if you call ducktales

Met countless Indians in Canada. Some good guys/girls, some bad just like any race.

The ones I knew best did get some $ for different reasons. ie. one of my boys got ~$15,000 for living on his reserve till he was 18 (he left to go to university, not sure if that was a requirement for getting the money). Also if they went to university/college it was all paid for + they got extra money for school supplies. As well as having most of their rent taken care of (while in school). I am pretty sure this money comes from the government, not their tribes.

I've met so many black people who swore they had Indian in em!

Ill ask what tribe they from n they be like huh?

That $&*% is hilarious

Been reading more and more about what actually went down in 1492 so I am reading this thread again.

I keep hearing the connection between Natives and Casinos. Can someone explain to me the connection?

I would be very interested in hearing some of the teacher's POV. I mean isn't what we learn now already severely biased?

On Native owned land they own everything. Casino's have to go through numerous zoning, gaming and taxing regulations. Most communities don't want casino's on there land for moral and financial reasons. Casino's know that if they go to Native owned land all they have to do is get the tribal governments approval to build a casino on their land and that is all they have to do. No having to go in front of local and state leaders and getting it passed.
