Surprised this hasnt been asked yet.

For those who wear shoes indoors, what's the purpose?

Shoes are made to protect your feet from the outside elements. To make sure they stay dry, to prevent you from punctures, and just straight making sure your feet stay intact.

In what scenerio, does any of that come in play while you're inside a home?

I knew someone who's foot was crushed by a forklift.
His name was Clarence and he was in a jazz band on the side. Played guitar.
He had to wear a special orthopedic arch support in one if his shoes to
prevent his foot from collapsing. I believe he wore it for years.
He could not walk around without footwear or the support.
I remember him telling me the story, showing me the insert/brace and complaining about it.

You gonna make him take his shoes off in your house and force him to
permanently damage his foot?

But you invited him over for the Super Bowl party and it's 15 degrees outside.

Perhaps you could settle on a compromise?...

...although it looks like there is a small breach/tear on the bottom left sanitation device in this example

and we don't let anyone in our master bedroom or much less on our bed at any time for any reason
